Enviromental Impact Assessment Guidelines
These guidelines have been developed in the frame of the Integrated Rural Development Programme. It aims at providing technical staff with a tool to assess the potential impact of a planned intervention on the environment. Though designed to suit small- and mid-scale infrastructural projects, these guidelines should be flexible enough to be adapted to a variety of other operations, including projects related to the social and health sector.
An EIA is an instrument which can be used to produce better and more sustainable development projects and to ensure that projects which are environmentally unacceptable are rejected. It does so by analyzing how the environment (including the people living in it or using it) is affected by the proposed intervention.
